Ali al-Asghar ibn Husayn
Abdullah (Ali al-Asghar ibn Husayn) (Tenth of Rajab, 60 AH - Tenth of Muharram, 61 AH) was the youngest child of Husayn ibn Ali (the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the third Shia Imam) and Rubab (the daughter of the chief of the Kinda Imra al-Qays tribe). He is honored by Muslims, particularly Shi'a Muslims, as the youngest person killed in the Battle of Karbala.
[edit] Life
Abdullah (Ali al-Asghar) ibn Husayn was born in Medina. He was one of the three sons of Imam Husayn. The other two were Ali ibn Husayn, the fourth Shia Imam, and Ali Akbar ibn Husayn, who Yazid's forces also killed in the Battle of Karbala. Ali Asghar was also adored by his sister Sukayna bint Husayn.

On the day of October 10, 680,(Muharram 10 61AH) which is known as Ashura when all companions of Imam Husayn were killed at Karbala, Imam raised his voice and said, “Hal min nasir yansuruna” ("Is there anyone from among you who will help us?"). Responding to the voice, Ali Asghar made himself fall from his cradle. Rubab told Husayn what had happened, so the Imam lifted his infant son from the cradle and decided to try and appeal to their humanity. He took him in his hands under covers towards the army of Yazid. As Imam Husayn reached the battlefield, the army murmured with the assumption that he was carrying the Quran.citation needed
Walking up to Yazid's army, while uncovering the infant, Husayn said, "This child has done you no harm. He is dying of thirst and I am asking only for a few drops of water for him." There was stillness in Yazid's army. Then the Imam said to his son, "Asghar! My son, show them how thirsty you are." Asghar turned his head towards the soldiers, smiled and opened his mouth. He brought out his dry tongue and moved it over his dry lips. The soldiers, many who had left their own families behind, were affected so much by this that they could be heard sobbing.
"Yeh Jihad-e-Ali Asghar mein Nudrat Dekhi" " Ladnen aiye Hain magar Haath mein Talwar nahi"This lovely urdu couplet by Kamaal Lahnavi epitomises the unique martyrdom of Ali Asghar in the battlefield of Karbala.
Umar ibn Sa'ad began to worry with this softened mood in his ranks. It seemed that Imam Husayn’s 6-month old son was emerging victorious against the might of Yazid. Umar Sa'ad looked at Hurmala ibn Kahel Azdi (a famous archer) and ordered him, "Silence Husayn!"
Hurmala, said to have quivering arms, lifted his bow and made Ali Asghar the target of his arrow which was used to kill horses. He took aim and immediately shot Ali Asghar with an arrow that pierced the infant's neck.[1] Ali Asghar is said to have smiled and kissed martyrdom while still in the hands of his father. Imam Husayn caught the blood of his son in the palm of his hands and wanted to throw it into the sky. At once, a heavenly voice said, "Husayn, don’t throw it towards the sky, otherwise it will not rain for ever till the Day of Judgment." Then Imam Husayn wanted to pour it on the earth but a heavenly voice said, "Husayn don’t pour it on the earth otherwise nothing will grow on the earth till the day of resurrection." So Imam Husayn rubbed the blood on his face and beard and exclaimed, "Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raje'oon" ("From God We Come and To Him We Return").
The Imam looking at the sky and prayed “O Allah, give me courage in this most difficult moment of my life." Then the Imam walked towards the tent of his wife Rubab. As he approached near he saw her standing at the entrance to her tent with anxiety, the hope, the fear and the restlessness in her eyes. Imam took seven steps back the tent saying Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajeoon (To Allah we belong and to Him we return). He again took seven steps forwards saying Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajeoon. Once again he walked backwards repeating the same ayat. Imam Husayn did this seven times. At last, Imam Husayn went to Rubab with their dead infant and said: “Rubab! This is a test from Allah, which no mother has ever been asked to go through.”[2] Superscript text

The martyrdom of Imam Husayn (A) and Ali Asghar(A)
Some of Imam’s followers were alive till noon in Ashura and performed a group prayer. Since morning, each of the followers who was martyred, Imam put him in the martyrs’ tent and went to the injured ones and even tried to solace his family at that time of crisis. Umar Sads army, seeing Imam’s sadness for losing his followers found that Imam could not fight with these great sadness and grief and they would be able to attack him easily.
It is quoted that Imm saw 72 of his followers martyred. He called “Sakineh, Fatemeh, Um Kulthum Salute to you”. The women started crying. Imam asked them to be quiet. Then told necessary matters to Imam Sajad, and asked Zeinab (A) to bring the infant to him to farewell. He embraced the six months old infant to kiss him but at the moment Harmaleh-Ibn-Kahel Asadi shot an arrow to his throat. Imam gave the infant to his sister, Zeinab, and spread his blood, which was running from his body, to the sky. Then he dug a tomb and buried Ali Asghar. Then farewelled the women. Sakineh who was so dear for Imam ran to him. Imam embraced her and said “after my death you will cry a lot so do not make me sad by your tears now”.
Then Imam went to the battle and killed a lot of enemies. Umar Sad, seeing the situation shouted “you are fighting with Ali’son who killed the brave Arabs. I swear by God that he has got his father’s spirit,” so “attack him as a group”. They attacked Imam who was thirsty, tired, hungry and had faced such great grief and sorrows.
He did not go far from the tents for two reasons: 1. He was aware that the enemy was so nasty that they might attack the women therefore, he wanted to be near the tents as long as he could. So that nobody could bother the women and children. 2. He wanted his family know that the was alive and be mitigated. He advised them not to go out of the tents till he is alive. The enemy army encircled him and some of them went towards the tents. Imam cried out thee Abi Sufyan’s followers, if you do not have a religion, be aware of the dooms day, and be magnanimous. Shimr said “What do you mean, Fatima’s son?” Imam said I am fighting you, prevent your rebellious men’s invasion to the women till I am alive.
Shimr shouted at the army to convert form the tents and attack him. He fought bravely so that because of thirst, he went to Furat river. Umar Sad tried to block him but he could reach the river through the enemies. He tried to give water to his horse. At the same time that one called “you are drinking water while the enemy attacks your family”. He moved towards the tents without drinking water but found that it was a trick so that he could not drink water to be fresh, but they were not aware that he would not drink as his followers were martyred thirsty.
He farewelled his family once more and asked them to be patient and reminded them of the good rewards in the promised world. He told them to be ready for the disaster. He also said “God will protect you and preserves you from the enemy (He was sure that his family would be safe), you will be lucky and your enemy will suffer the tortures, so do not complain”.
He turned to the enemy and they attacked him by arrows. A man called Abulutfash shot an arrow to his majesty’s forehead. He took it out and as the blood was running on his face he continued fighting and said “God you see what they are doing to me, so do not forgive them”. He said the enemy “I hope God will bestow me martyrdom and make you inferiors and make you enemies for each other and offer you a great torture.” His prayer was accomplished and they fought each other as Kufa which was a glorious city got ruined and Mokhtar could revenge them.
He fought while having so many injuries, two of them were serious scares. He fainted and at this time, a stone hit his forehead and then a three pointed arrow fierced his chest, he pulled the arrow out and let his hand fill with the blood and said “I will meet the prophet with these hands and let him know they killed me”. Malek-Ibn-Sar hit his forehead by a sword as swearing him. The blood was running from his head. His majesty bandaged the scar with a piece of cloth. Then asked his family to bring him extra clothes to wear under his clothes so that if they tried to take his clothes after his death he wont be naked. Even in this condition he tried to fight the enemy and Shimr ordered them to fire Sauad. Zeinab who saw the scene shouted at Umar Sad “Owe to you they are killing Husayn(A) and you are watching” It is quoted that he turned his face away form Zeinab. Zeinab told the enemy “Is not there a Muslim among you?” At this moment Saleh-Ibn Vahab-Al-Yazani hit him by a spear. Imam fell down from the horse and hit the ground but could stand up. Zeinab cried out “My brother, my master, my family I wished the sky would ruin and collapse on the ground, I wished the mountains would scatter and spread on the desert. Shimr asked his men to kill him, but the enemy was afraid of him and thought it might be a trick. They tried to check the issue. So some of them went towards the tents and some called “Are you alive Husayn? They attacked your tents.” They were aware that if it were a trick his majesty could not bear it and be quiet. He could stand up with difficulty and said “Thee Abn Sufyan followers, if you do not believe in the doomsday, and are not religious, you may be liberates.”
Being sure that Imam has really fallen on the ground, they attacked him. Umar Sad asked Khuli to behead him but he was trembling, so Shimr beheaded Imam. Then the enemy took his clothes out. The sky was really dark as if an immediate disaster was going to happen.
They put Imam’s head on top of a spear and moved in the cities among the people, although they knew he was one of the prophet’s family.
As quoted by Imam Bagher “They killed the prophet’s son by arrow, sword, and stone and rode on their horses on his body “That, you are prohibited to do with the animals.
Imam Husayn visited the tents after the last farewell so his family were still waiting for him to come and hear his voice and see his face, but suddenly they heard his horse’s (Zoljaneh) sound. They thought his majesty has come again but they saw it’s saddle was hanging. It was smeared itself with Imam’s blood, neighed and hit the ground. It is quoted it did so utill it died.

Worldwide Commemoration of Ali Asghar (a.s.): Bab ul-Hawaej
He smiled, and the world cried in return
Introduction:
What better evidence is there to reveal the oppression and injustice imposed on Imam Hussayn other than the killing of his infant son? Who can hear about this painful event and not weep in sorrow? Who can truly comprehend the immensity of the tragedy and remain at ease?
We have had the honor of crying out his name and what has happened to him for four years.
The first year: Mahdieh of Tehran: Mothers participated in the ceremony and held their own infants and mourned Ali Asghar's innocence. We asked Allah for a deeper understanding of the Ashoora Movement.
The second year: In addition to Mahdieh of Tehran, the following cities joined us in our services: Qom, Mashhad, Maname (Bahrain), London, Karbala, Najaf, Helleh (Iraq). We raised our hands in prayer for the expansion and acceptance of our actions.
The third year: As well as Mahdieh of Tehran, the ceremony was held in more than 50 cities throughout Iran. In cities such as Karaj, Isfehan, Mashhad, Yazd, Zanjan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Kashan, Hamedan, Semnan, Shadgan, Mahallat, Urumieh, Ahwaz, and Bandar Abbas, mothers and their infants mourned in memory of the innocence of the precious infant of Imam Hussayn.
The fourth year: With the grace of God, the ceremony took place in Mahdieh of Tehran, Bilal Masjid (IRIB), more than 60 cities in Iran and 37 cities around the world. Mothers around the world held their infants and cried for the same purpose at the same time.

Program:
All of the programs are to begin at the same time, in the same way, with the same goal all over the world.
Time/Date:
Every year: the first Friday of Moharram

Get together of Hussayni Infants

Our rendezvous: the first Friday of every Moharram
Oh Greetings to the Nourrisson!
Oh Greetings to the Son of Hussayn!
Salam upon the slit throat of Ali Asghar
He smiled, and the world cried in return
Author: Hojatol Islam Seyyed Jafar Ghazanfari Khansari, Qom
Among the companions of Imam Hussayn (a. s.), there were various types of people on the day of Ashoora. They all gave a final warning to the people of the world in their own way. Noblemen and servants together, people of different races, even some who joined Imam Hussayn’s side the very morning of Ashoora, hand in hand fought the battle with Imam Hussayn. An old man, an eighteen-year-old, and a six-month-old…
It’s true, in the fight against evil there was an infant who played a significant role. He is the son of Imam Hussayn, Ali Asghar.
In no religion or sect is the permission granted to murder an innocent six-month-old child. In no war or battle has it been documented that an army face a child and slaughter him in his father’s hands. There were many a time when Imam Hussayn could have caused similar pain to the enemy, but this would have been against his principles. He had principles of freedom, liberty, humanity and compassion which would be in opposition to such cruel behavior. But what did a parched six-month-old do to deserve such treatment?
After Ashoora, Mokhtar Thaghafi (p. b. u. h.) sought revenge for the killing of Imam Hussayn (a. s.) and the news spread to Imam Sajjad (a. s.). They told him that Mokhtar rose up and killed all of those who killed your father and his companions; they were all punished for their actions. Imam Sajjad asked about Harmala. His companions asked why he was so interested in Harmala among all the other enemies. He answered: “You don’t know what this Harmala did to us! When my father, Imam Hussayn (a. s.) was holding my small brother in his arms and walking toward the enemy and saying: “Can’t you see how much this child is in need of water?” Like a fish out of water, after a while, it doesn't have energy to move. It can only move its lips, showing its need for water. At this point, even if you give him water, he won't live. He called out to them: “Give Ali Asghar a drop of water so at least he won’t die parched!”
If you are at war with me
Be at war with me
Take my child and give him water
Give him something to drink
Imam Sajjad (a. s.) says: “My father was in the middle of uttering such words when Harmala fired a three-headed arrow towards my brother and slit his precious throat.”
For what crime was he killed?
He is but a child, but he is not small. His hands seem small, but everyone wishes that those hands will help them.
The first Friday of Moharram is named the Worldwide Commemoration of Ali Asghar (a. s.). We are honored to take part in the ceremonies commemorating Ali Asghar (a. s.). We hereby invite all heartbroken mothers to join us with their infants in memory of Imam Hussayn and his infant. Throughout the years, there have been many mothers who have received what their hearts desired due to their presence and support in these ceremonies.

Special Edition: Ali Asghar: From birth to martyrdom
Special Edition
Ali Asghar: From birth to martyrdom
We celebrate the tenth of Rajab, the birthday of the youngest companion of Ashoora and Bab ul-Hawaej (the door to all desires), Imam Hussayn’s six-month-old, Ali Asghar (a.s.)
It’s the tenth of Rajab, the year 60 (After Hejra, lunar calendar). The house of Imam Hussayn is filled with light once again. Medina’s sky is lit once again. The entire world is lit up. Tears of joy and excitement fall on the infant’s cheek. The tears of his father were like morning dew on the newly emerged bud. Allah has given his servant, Imam Hussayn a son to whom the rich and the poor turn to for help.
He named him Ali, just as he had named his other two sons, demonstrating his love for his great father Imam Ali. He said that if Allah were to give him one thousand sons, he would name them all Ali. The infant too, had the great name Ali: the name more magnificent than the sky and more splendid than the sea.
Abdullah, the nourrisson, is also known as Ali Asghar; the son of Imam Hussayn, Seyyede Shohadda; the son of Robab, the daughter of Emra Al-Gheys bin Uday (famous pre-Islamic poet).
Imam Hussayn held his newborn in his arms and cried. Ali Asghar is the six-month-old of Karbala, the infant of Ashoora. Ali Asghar, you came to be the traveling companion of Karbala. You came to leave your Hajj unfinished.
When you were born, everyone’s happiness came to a stop. It’s such a shame. All that you experienced in life was pain, thirst and martyrdom. You came to give more value to the concept of martyrdom. You are the smallest sacrifice made in the name of Allah. Although small, what you did is huge. Your name is on the list of the ones who sacrificed everything for Ashoora and Islam. Assalamo aleik, oh Ali Asghar. Your name is repeated by all who seek divine help.
Name: Hussayn, Father of Ali Asghar (p.b.u.h.)
Nick name: Aba Abdullah, Abol Masakeen ( Father of the Miserable)
Honorific title: Seyyede Shohadda (master of martyrs)
Father: Ali (p.b.u.h.)
Mother: Fatemeh Zahra (p.b.u.h.)
Birthdate: 3 Shaban, 4 (Lunar Hejri)
Place of martyrdom: Karbala
Name of murderer: Shemr bin Zil Joshan
Period of leadership as Imam: 11 years, 11 months, and 3 days
Life: 57 years, 7 months and 7 days
The holy city of Karbala
This city is located south of Baghdad, 80 kilometers northwest of Najaf, near Forat River. It is 455 kilometers away from the city of Kermanshah in Iran.
What does Karbala mean?
Karbala is a place that God considers to be holy. When Imam Hussayn reached this city, he asked what the name of the city was. They said it was Karbala. His eyes were filled with tears and he said:
“Allahoma enni a’uzo beka menal karbo val bala.”
He knew that this was the land where he and his companions were to be killed. He said: “This is the land of suffering and problems, this is where we go down and our blood will be shed.” There are many narrations about the land of Karbala; we will only mention three.
1. The prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) says: “My (grand)son (Hussayn) will be buried in a place called Karbala. Karbala is where a dome is.”
2. Imam Reza (a.s.) says: “The Torbat (the dust that accumulates on the shrine) will cure all illnesses and give protection from all worries and phobias.
3. The prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) says: “Any wish made under the dome of the shrine of Imam Hussayn will be granted. His torbat will cure and the generations of imams are from his progeny.
Ali Asghar
Be ayye zanbun ghotelat?
One of Imam Hussayn’s sons, an infant, was wiggling with thirst on the day of Ashoora. Imam called out to the enemy and said: “This infant is the only one left from my sons and companions. Can’t you see how desperate thirst has made him?" In the book Nafsul Mahmum it is said that he calls out: “If you won’t have mercy on me, at least have mercy on this child!” While he was talking, Harmala loosed an arrow that slit the six-month-old’s throat. Imam Hussayn took some of the gushing blood from his son’s throat and threw it up in the air.
In Maghtal books, there is reference to Ali Asghar and The Nourrossion. No clear consensus exists whether it is one child or two.
One might think that Ali Asghar was only an infant on Ashoora, and he didn’t play an important role. But this is not the case at all. He had an extremely important emotional and sentimental role. When he was killed so cruelly, the people who had the slightest humanity left in them realized just how cold-blooded and barbaric the enemy was. The enemy didn’t even take mercy on an innocent infant!
In Ziarah of Nahie Moghadassa, we send our salam to the infant. In one version of Ziarah of Ashoora he is referred to as Imam Hussayn’s son, Ali Asghar. There are many names for Ali Asghar: The Infant, The Six-Month-Old, Bab al-Hawaej, the Deliverer of Our Desires and the cradle is a symbol that represents the Infant of Karbala.
What is there to do for the infant but smile
The one who laughed at death, was your child
“Ali Asghar is the brightest face of Karbala, the greatest proof of oppression… Through the eyes of history, there has never been a more influential role for martyrdom.” (Bahar al-Anwar Vol.45, p.660) They call Ali Asghar “Bab al-Hawaej”, meaning the door to all desires, even though he is only a small child.
The door of the garden of martyrdom
Is unlocked by the small key of Ali Asghar

The Great Martyrs of Karbala
Hujjat al-Islam Syed Zaki Baqueri
What is raining? Blood.
Who? The eyes.
How? Day and night.
Why? From grief.
Grief for whom? Grief for the king of Karbala .
-Qaani
This poem, in its marvelous style of question and answer, conveys much of the dramatic events and the feelings a pious Muslim experiences when thinking of the martyrdom of the Prophet's beloved grandson at the hands of the Umayyad troops.
"For this is the day the Lord God hosts a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries, and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood for the Lord God hosts hath a sacrifice in a North country by the river Euphrates."
-Jer. 46 : 10
(The Old Testament)
Karbala is the cruelest tragedy humanity has ever seen. Yet, the startling (though appalling) events in Karbala proved like a powerful volcano that shook the very foundation of Muslim's, it stirred their consciousness and still does to this very day for all classes of Muslims, ignorant or learned alike. For sincere Muslims, Karbala turned into a triumph. The tragic event became the very beacon of light that always remind Muslims to practice Islam honestly and sincerely, to do what is right irrespective of consequences, and fear no one except Allah (swt).
On the other hand, Yazid never achieved what he and his father had planned to achieve, for within three years, Allah's wrath fell upon him, causing him to die at the age of 33 years. And within a few decades the rule of Banu Umayya crumbled and came to an end. The tragedy of Karbala taught humanity a lesson that standing up for the truth and fighting unto death for it, is more honorable and valuable than submitting to oppression, especially when the survival of Islam is at stake.
Imam Hussein (A.S.)
He was the son of the first Imam - Imam Ali(A.S.). He was the brother of the second Imam - Imam Hasan(A.S.). He was the son of the Lady of Light Bibi Fatima (A.S.). He was the Leader in Kerbala, the Saviour of Islam, the King of Martyrs. He was the third Imam - Imam Hussein(A.S.)
On the day our Imam was born, the Holy Prophet(SAW) prophesized that the faith of Islam will be rescued by his second grandson, Hussain, at a time where Yazid, Muawiya's son, will attempt to destroy it. After Imam Hasan(A.S.) had snatched the power from Muawiya, the rightful kigdom should have went to Imam Hussein(A.S.). But, in fact with lies and deception Muawiya gave the power to his son Yazid. A mere days after receiving power from his father, Yazid began inflicting his own corruption across the land. He then asked for allegiance(baith) from the deserving leader Imam Hussein(A.S.).
Surely giving allegiance to Yazid was no less than accepting the devil as God.
Imam refused allegiance, which angered Yazid a great deal. Thus, the war of Kerbala had begun to form. After countless journeys, the Imam and his caravan had entered the city of Kerbala. There, the tents were setup and preparations for the most significant battle in history began. In the scorching desert heat, the Imam had setup his tents near the banks of the river Euphrates(Furat). On the 7th of Muharram water supply to the Imam's camp was cut and the torture of hunger and thirst started. The Imam's camp consisted of ladies, innocent children, family members and companions of the Imam who wanted to fight the devil in the cause of Allah(SWT).
On the 10th of Muharram (Ashura), after 3 days without water or food, after carrying back dead bodies of his brother, his sons, and his nephews, the Imam went out in the battlefield. But, just like his Great Father(A.S.) used to do, he preached the love of God and the obediance of the Holy Prophet(SAW) first. After battling the enemies, sources say that the Imam was seen on his horse staring towards heaven. Having lost every one of his family members including his baby son, himself fully wounded from head to toe, his clothes drenched in his blood and his family's blood, the Imam had no strength to even come off his horse. After his horse kneeled, our helpless Imam rolled to the ground at time of prayer(Namaz).
Now lying on the heated sands of Kerbala, sources tell us that there were so many arrows in our Imam's body that his body could not even touch the ground. While axes and arrows flew towards him, the Imam commenced his prayer. During the prayer the Commander of Yazid's army ordered his troops to cut off the Imam's head. Not a single one of those troops could cut off our Imam's head. But, Shimr, the heartless brute, made his way over to the Imam and severed his head as the Imam's sister, Bibi Zainab, could only watch and cry.
Imam Hussein's(A.S.) sacrifice is remembered every year as millions of Muslims comemmorate his death with majlis and matam in the month of Muharram.
"The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Kerbala, is that Hussain and his followers were the rigid believers of God. They illustrated that numeric superiority does not count when it comes to Truth and Falsehood. The victory of Hussain, despite his minority marvels me." - Thomas Carlyle
Hazrat Abbas Alamdar
He was the son of the Lion of God. He was known as Haider the Second and the moon of the Hashemites. His enemies feared him, his friends and family loved him. Just like his father he had the courage of a lion, the strength of a bear. He was the standard bearer of Islam. He was Hazrat Abbas Alamdar.
After his birth, Hazrat Abbas never opened his eyes until he was in the arms of his brother Imam Hussein(A.S.). Many parallels can be drawn between his relationship with Imam Hussein(A.S.) and Imam Ali's(A.S.) relationship with the Holy Prophet(SAW). It can be said, that if the Holy Prophet was created to introduce Islam, than Imam Ali was his assistant. In the same context, it can be said that if Imam Hussein was created to save Islam than Hazrat Abbas was his assistant. Hazrat Abbas was raised by his father for the first 14 years of his life. After which he spent time with his brother Imam Hasan(A.S.). He then spent his last quarter of his life being raised by Imam Hussein(A.S.), Hazrat Abbas was surrounded by perfection his whole life.
Throughout his life Hazrat Abbas never referred to Imam Hussain as brother, but rather master and leader. In Kerbala, Hazrat Abbas was the standard bearer of Islam. He would carry around an alam with him, a structure that symbolized justice and the truth. Thus, he was given the name alamdar.
In the hot deserts of Kerbala, after having no food or water, Hazrat Abbas could hear the crying voices of the children who were thirsty for water. After his four-year old niece, Sakina, asked him to get water for the kids, Hazrat Abbas went and asked the Imam for his permission to go and get these kids some water. Upon hesitation, the Imam granted him permission. So, Hazrat Abbas, with the alam in one hand and Bibi Sakina's water-bag(mushq) in the other rode off in to the battlefield. Knowing how powerful her uncle was, Bibi Sakina gathered all the kids with cups in their hand waiting for her uncle to bring them some water.
After fighting his way to the river, Hazrat Abbas filled the mushq with water. Any ordinary man would have taken that opportunity to take a drink of water, but not Hazrat Abbas. Knowing that his master and his niece are thirsty, how can he drink that water. On his way back to the camp, Yazid's army surrounded Hazrat Abbas, showering the skies with arrows. After having his right arm cut off, Hazrat Abbas put the mushq and the alam in his left arm. Yazid's army would not let up, they then cut off Hazrat Abbas's left arm, the alam then fell to the ground, but Hazrat Abbas would not let the mushq fall, he kept fighting putting the mushq in his mouth. But, realizing that the mushq is his weak point, one of the troops fired an arrow that hit the mushq and all the water flowed out.
After falling from the horse, Hazrat Abbas yelled out for his brother. The Imam came running holding Hazrat Abbas in his lap. Before dying, the Imam had one request. All his life Hazrat Abbas would never call him brother, that day the Imam's simple request was that Hazrat Abbas call him brother. After fulfilling his brother's request, Hazrat Abbas left this world the same way he entered it, in the arms of Imam Hussein, staring into his eyes.
Hazrat Ali Asghar
The son of the third Imam, masoom Ali Asghar was the youngest martyr in Kerbala. At the tender age of six months, he proved to the world that sacrifice for Islam has no age barrier.
As the helpless Imam stood in the battlefield, the voice of his sister could be heard calling him. When the Imam approached the camp, he saw Hazrat Ali Asghar lying there dying of thirst. The masoom's mother, Rubab, could not help her own son because her milk dried up due to the heat and the hunger. The Imam took his infant son and carried him into the battlefield, where he pleaded with Yazid's army for some water for his dying son. There was no response. Afraid that they may think he'll drink the water, the Imam laid his six-month year old son on the sands of Kerbala to show the enemies his true intentions. Again, no response.
The Imam then asked his son to show the enemies how thirsty he was, Hazrat Ali Asghar with his tiny, dried up tongue, licked his lips three times. This act caused most of Yazid's army to cry in sadness of this masoom child. Realizing that his army was weakening, Ibna'i-Sa'd, the Commander of Yazid's army, ordered Hurmula, their best archer to answer this request. The heartless coward, shot a three-headed arrow(in those days used for hunting large animals) which went through Hazrat Ali Asghar's neck and into the Imam's arm. Blood flowed from his neck, the baby looked up at his father, smiled, and stopped breathing. The Imam stood there with his new-born son pinned to his arm with an arrow pierced through his neck.
The Imam then realized that he has to bring this body to the mother of this child. After seven steps towards the camp, the Imam stopped and went back seven steps. It is truly a tough task for any father, to bring his dead new-born to his mother. The Imam repeated this process seven times while saying, "INNA LILLAHEY WA INNA ILAIHEY RAAJAOON". Watching this whole ordeal from the tent, Rubab made the job of the Imam easier by coming out of her tent herself. Together they buried their son right there in the plains of Kerbala.
Hazrat Ali Akbar
He was the son of the King of Martyrs. He was known as Muhammad the Second because of his striking resemblance to the Holy Prophet(SAW). This 18-years old warrior was ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of Islam. This 18-year old was Hazrat Ali Akbar.
Hazrat Ali Akbar had the beauty of an angel. He was loved and deared by all his aunts and uncles. After his uncle Hazrat Abbas did not return, Hazrat Ali Akbar requested permission from his father to go out into the battlefield. After granting permission to his son, Imam Hussein(A.S.) watched as his son went out to do battle. As Hazrat Ali Akber was approaching the battlefield, he turned to look towards the camp only to see his father come running after him. Confused, he asked his fatheer why are you coming when you have already granted me permission. For that brief moment the Imam was a father and not the leader of the sacrifice. He could not bear to watch his beloved son go out to battle. After reminding his father of this great sacrifice for Islam, Imam Hussein(A.S.) let his son go to fulfill his sacrifice.
When Hazrat Ali Akbar approached the battlefield, Yazid's army were so amazed at his resemblance to the Holy Prophet(SAW) that those who have seen the Prophet before thought he reappeared in this world to help his grandson. People were so anxious to see this enchantingly beautiful youth that those who were in the back of the army would stand on their horses to catch a glimpse of Hazrat Ali Akber. But after fighting off the enemies for as long as he could, a powerful lance pierced through his chest causing him to fall to the ground.
The Imam came running from the camp into the battlefield. It is reported that when the Imam pulled the lance out of the chest of his son the ground of Kerbala shook as if a natural disaster was on its way. The Imam stood looking at his son dying before his eyes lifting his head towards Heaven.
Hazrat Qasim
He was the son of Imam Hasan(A.S.). At the age of 14, Hazrat Qasim was willing to sacrifice his young life for the sake of his grandfather's mission. After the death of his father, Hazrat Qasim spent most of his time with Imam Hussein(A.S.).
Sources say that when Hazrat Qasim requested permission from the Imam for battle, the Imam remembered the request of his older brother, Imam Hasan(A.S.). The second Imam's request was for his brother to wed one of his daughters with his son, Hazrat Qasim. It is reported that Imam Hussein(A.S.) wedded his daughter Fatima-Qubra with Hazrat Qasim and immediately after sent the young groom to fulfill his sacrifice. After killing five famous troops of Yazid's army, young Qasim fell from his horse.
Before the Imam could reach his nephew in response to his cry for help, the entire army trampeled the young body of Hazrat Qasim, leaving the Imam with only himself to do battle.

“Husain is from me, and I am from Husain”
A’udhubillah…rajeem
O Allah, send blessings on Mohammad and his Ahlul Bayt
O Allah, become, now and always, the Guardian, Shield, and Leader; Helper, Guide, and Protector;
of Your wali (representative), Al-Hujjat-ibn-Al-Hasan (Your blessings be on him and his forefathers)
so that he may become firmly established on Your earth, and govern for a long time.
Salawaat!
Our Holy Prophet (SAW) said:
“Husain is from me, and I am from Husain”
In other words, Imam Husain (AS) is Rasool-Allah’s flesh and blood, and the message of
Rasool-Allah (SAW), the existence of Islam is ONLY due to Imam Husain (AS).
The goal of this year’s series of speeches by the students of ALI School
is Husain Shanaasi, that is to enhance our understanding of Imam Husain (AS)
under the guidance of this Hadees of Rasool-Allah (SAW).
These speeches are available on the ALI School website.

Moharram 9: The Night of Ashura
Zainab Imam
Umar Sad mounted his horse, occupied a place in front of his army and said: "O riders of Allah!
Mount, and be it known to you that your place is in Paradise". Strangely enough, this is the
same expression which was uttered by the Holy Prophet in a battle when he invited his
companions to defend Islam.
As the army grew nearer Imam Husain (as) asked Hazrat Abbas to go and see what new
development had taken place.
Hazrat Abbas approached the enemy army accompanied by twenty horse-men, and enquired
from them about the reason for their sudden attack. They replied: "We have received orders
from our Amir that either you should surrender immediately or we should fight against you".
Hazrat Abbas said: "Don't be in a hurry. Let me go to the Imam and inform him of the
situation". While Hazrat Abbas went and informed Imam Husain (as), his companions
remained in front of the enemy forces. Imam Husain (as) said to his brother: "Go back to them
and obtain an extension of time from them till tomorrow morning, so that tonight we may offer
prayers to Allah (swt).” They granted relief to the Imam and his companions till the following
morning. Imam Husain took advantage of this short opportunity and prepared himself for
martyrdom.
Imam Husain called his companions after sunset and addressed them. He knew very well that
he could not agree to surrender and take the oath of allegiance. He also knew that the enemy
would not leave him alone and the matter would not be settled without fighting. In these
circumstances his martyrdom as well as that of his companions was certain. In spite of all this,
he spoke to his companions with perfect composure and confidence. He pointed out to them
that the following day was the day of martyrdom, and insisted that each one of them should
leave Karbala to go to their respective cities, because the enemies were after him only.
Imam Husain commenced his speech thus: "I thank Allah (swt) to the best of my ability and
praise Him during the time of sorrow. It is a fact that I am not aware of any companions more
faithful and honest than my companions and any relatives more righteous and kind than my
09-zainab-imam.doc Page 3 ALI Moharram 2008
relatives. May Allah (swt) grant all of you a good reward. The day of our fighting with this army
has arrived. I permit all of you to go away. You are free to depart without any restriction and
should take advantage of the darkness of night". Imam Husain (as) blew out the candles. After
a considerable amount of time he relit them and saw that no one had left. Imam Husain’s
family replied with one voice: "Should we leave to live a life after you? We pray to Allah (swt)
that the time may not come when you may be killed and we may remain alive".
Muslim bin Awsaja said: "If we withdraw our support from you and leave you alone what
excuse shall we have before Allah (swt)? I swear that I shall not leave you. I shall thrust my
spear in the chest of your enemies and shall quench the thirst of my sword with their blood.
And when there are no weapons left in my hand to fight with, I shall shower stones upon
them."
After the meeting Imam Husain (as) and his companions prepared for the following day.
Imam Husain had brought cane and firewood to place in a ditch, which they had dug during the
night. He said, “When they march against us and fight us, we will set the wood on fire, so we
will not be open to attack from the rear. We can fight them from a single direction.” He went out
to his followers and instructed them to bring their tents close together. Imam Husain and his
companions spent the rest of the night in prayers, seeking forgiveness from Allah (swt). Imam
Husain (as) recited the following supplication:
"O' Allah, You are my trust in every sorrow and my hope in every hardship. You are truly the
bestower of every bounty, the source of every blessing and the goal of every desire. You have
guided me and shown me the significance of all matters which I face."
The night of Ashura came to an end -the night which will never come again in the history of
mankind, which ended with the preparation for martyrdom of the great personalities in the way
of Allah (swt).
The day of Ashura arrived. Imam Husain (as) made the biggest sacrifice ever witnessed by
mankind. In one day, he sacrificed his brothers, nephews, and children on the land of Karbala.
He remained patient after seeing so many shaheed in one day. Aun and Mohammed had been
martyred. Qasim was trodden to pieces. Abbas was lying on the bank of the River Furaat. Ali
Akbar's chest was torn open with a spear. By Asr time Imam Husain (as) was left alone.
Imam Husain rode his horse to a small mount, he then called out loudly:
09-zainab-imam.doc Page 4 ALI Moharram 2008
"IS THERE ANY HELPER TO HELP ME? IS THERE ANYONE TO HELP THE GRANDSON
OF THE HOLY PROPHET?"
Imam Husain heard the sound of crying coming from his camp. He turned around and returned
to the tents. "Zainab, your brother is still alive. Why are you crying?" "My brother Husain, when
you called out, "IS THERE ANYONE TO HELP ME", Ali Asghar threw himself from his cradle."
Imam Husain knew what Ali Asghar was trying to say. He went to Umme Rabab. Ali Asghar
was on her lap crying while she was trying to comfort him. Imam Husain picked up Hazrat Ali
Asghar and whispered in his ear. Ali Asghar stopped crying and looked up at his father smiling.
"Umme Rabab, I am taking Ali Asghar to the battlefield with me so that I can get some water
for him."
Imam Husain carried Ali Asghar to the battlefield on the scorching sands of Karbala. He
covered Hazrat Ali Asghar with his abaa to protect him from the blazing sun. Imam Husain
walked to Yazeed’s soldiers. He held Ali Asghar high with both his hands and said: "O soldiers
of Yazeed, you feel I have offended you, but what has this little child done to you? His mother's
milk has dried up. He has not had a drop of water for three days. I ask you to give water to this
innocent little child." Not one of Yazeed’s soldiers brought any water for Ali Asghar. Imam
Husain looked at the infant and said: "My son Ali Asghar, you are a grandson of Ali, fight your
Jihad." Ali Asghar stuck his dry tongue out and moved it over his parched lips looking towards
Yazeed’s men. Ali Asghar shot a strange arrow - his dry tongue. It hit the hearts of Yazeed’s
soldiers who had children of their own. They became restless. Some started crying. They
spoke amongst themselves: "Imam Husain is saying the truth. What has this child done to us?
Why is he being punished like this? Let us give him some water." Umar Saad cried out:
"Hurmula! What are you waiting for? Silence the infant! Do you not know he is a grandson of
Ali?" Hurmula aimed an arrow at Ali Asghar. It was an arrow with three sharp heads.
The arrow flew across the desert of Karbala and went through Imam Husain's arm instantly
killing Hazrat Ali Aghar

Imam Husain (as) gently pulled the arrow from Ali Asghar’s tiny neck. As blood gushed out
from his neck, a voice came from the ground: "No, Husain, do not let Ali Asghar's blood fall to
the ground, otherwise no crops will ever grow from this earth." Imam Husain looked up, as
another voice came from the sky: "No Husain, do not let the blood gush towards the sky,
otherwise, not a drop of rain will ever fall from this sky." The sky and the earth are refusing to
accept Ali Asghar's blood. Imam Husain wiped Ali Asghar's blood on his face.
He started walking towards the tents, but went back. SEVEN TIMES, Imam Husain went
forward and then turned back, Saying: "INNA LILLAHE WA INNA ELAIHE RAJEOON RIDHAN
BI QADHA’IHEE WA TASLEEMAN LIAMR’IH."
He finally reached the tent where Bibi Rabab was standing. "Rabab, come and take Ali
Asghar." Bibi Rabab took her little infant. She hugged him and cried her heart out.
Imam Husain and Bibi Rabab walked to the back of the tents. Imam Husain dug a small grave
with his sword and placed Ali Asghar in the grave.

O Allah, send blessings on Mohammad and his Ahlul Bayt
O Allah, become, now and always, the Guardian, Shield, and Leader; Helper, Guide, and Protector;
of Your wali (representative), Al-Hujjat-ibn-Al-Hasan (Your blessings be on him and his forefathers)
so that he may become firmly established on Your earth, and govern for a long time.

Ali Asghar

Majlis 10: HAZRAT ALI ASGHARPosted by Alasghar
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Tonight is the 10th night of Moharram. Tonight is the eve of Ashura. A very tragic night. A very sad night. The last night for the 72 martyrs of Kerbala. The last night for brothers to be with their sisters. The last night for sisters to be with their brothers. The last night for fathers to be with their children. The last night for mothers to be with their children. The last night for little Sakina to be with her beloved uncle Abbas and dearest father Husayn. Indeed, a night never to be forgotten. A night to shed more tears. A night to do more matam. THE NIGHT OF ASHURA ON THE LAND OF KERBALA Mothers are sitting with their children. Umme Laila is with Ali Akber, Umme Farwah is with Qasim, Bibi Zainab is with Auno- Mohammed. What are these mothers of Kerbala telling their beloved children? They are preparing them for Jehad. They are preparing them to sacrifice their lives. Preparing them to die! Why? Because they know Husayn is on the right path. The right path to save Islam! Let us send our salaams to those mothers of Kerbala for sacrificing their most precious for Islam. Abbas the Alamdar! Like every night, Abbas was guarding the camp. Where was Husayn? Husayn had gathered all his friends and companions in his tent. "My friends, my companions, tonight is the last night. Tomorrow is the day of Ashura. Tomorrow is the day of Shahadat - martyrdom! None of us will be spared by Yazid's soldiers." Imam Husayn continued: "My friends, my companions, you have suffered enough. There is still time to save your lives. Escape in the darkness of the night. I will have no objections. I will forgive you. Go, my friends! Go, my companions!" Imam Husayn blew the candles off. There was total darkness. Anyone could have escaped without being seen or embarrassed. After a while, Husayn lit the candles. How many ran away? One? Two? Five? Ten? No one! Why did they not run away to save their lives? Because, my fellow Husayni, they had recognised the truth. Because they knew Husayn was right. Because they knew Husayn was on the true path. Because they knew their sacrifice would save Islam. Husayn was lucky to be blessed with true friends and best companions, - faithful, truthful and pious! Our greetings to those 72 martyrs of Kerbala for their great sacrifice for Islam. Imam Husayn made the biggest sacrifice. In one day, he sacrificed his brothers, nephews and children on the land of Kerbala. He remained patient after seeing so many dead in one day. Did Husayn complain? NO, NEVER! On the contrary, after sacrificing his 18 year old son Ali Akber he looked up at the sky and said: "YA ALLAH, GIVE ME MORE PATIENCE. YA ALLAH, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN GIVE FOR YOUR SAKE?" Allah's will was Husayn's command. Husayn was prepared and willing to sacrifice his family. He never prayed to Allah to save his family. Instead he prayed for PATIENCE! PATIENCE! AND MORE PATIENCE! ALLAH! WHAT A BIG HEART HUSAYN HAD IN KERBALA! Auno - Mohammed had been killed. Qasim was trodden to pieces. Abbas was lying on the bank of River Furaat. Ali Akber's chest was torn open with a spear. Is there anymore to sacrifice? Tonight is the night of Ali Asghar. The little MUJAHEED - the little soldier and the youngest SHAHEED. Ashura came to the land of Kerbala. One-by-one, Husayn's friends and companions were martyred. Auno - Mohammed, Qasim, Abbas and Ali Akber went to the battlefield and were martyred. By Asr time Husayn was left alone. The time had come for Husayn to go to the battlefield. Husayn said KHUDA HAFIZ to everyone. Husayn, with his sword ZULFIKAR on his waist, mounted ZULJANA, his horse. Husayn rode his horse to a small mount, he then called out loudly: "IS THERE ANYONE TO HELP ME? IS THERE ANYONE TO HELP THE GRANDSON OF THE HOLY PROPHET?" With this call, the grandson of the Holy Prophet, was giving one last chance to Yazid's men, the men who called themselves Muslims - the followers of the Holy Prophet. Hypocrites! That's what Yazid's men were. No one answered Husayn's last call. But Husayn heard the sound of crying coming from his camp. Husayn turned around and returned to his tents. "Zainab, your brother is still alive. Why are you crying?" "My brother Husayn, when you called out, "IS THERE ANYONE TO HELP ME", Ali Asghar fell from his cradle." Husayn knew what Ali Asghar was trying to say. Husayn went to Umme Rubab. Ali Asghar was on her lap. He was crying and Umme Rubab was trying to comfort him. Husayn picked up baby Ali Asghar and whispered in his ear. Ali Asghar stopped crying. He looked up at his father and smiled. "Umme Rubab, I am taking Ali Asghar to the battlefield with me so that I can get some water for him." What did Husayn whisper in Ali Asghar's ear? What made Ali Asghar stop crying, and to smile? Husayn had whispered: "My son, Ali Asghar, do you want to come to the battlefield with me? Asghar, do you want to show your strength on the battlefield? Come, let us go, my little Mujaheed, my little soldier, Asghar." Umme Rubab changed Ali Asghar's clothes. Imam Husayn carried Ali Asghar to the battlefield. It was very hot. Ali Asghar was thirsty. Husayn covered baby Ali Asghar with his abaa, to protect him from the scorching sun. Yazid's men saw Husayn approaching with something in his hand. "Look, Husayn is coming with the Quran. He has no one left to help him. With the help of the Quran he is hoping to win." Husayn walked to Yazid's soldiers. By moving his abaa he uncovered Ali Asghar. He held Ali Asghar high with both his hands and said: "O soldiers of Yazid, you feel I have offended you, but what has this little child done to you? His mother's milk has dried up. He has not had a drop of water for three days. He is dying of thirst. I beg you to give water to this innocent little child." Not one of Yazid's soldiers brought any water for Ali Asghar. Once more Imam Husayn begged: Maybe you think that when you bring water for this child, I will drink it too. I will put this little child on the ground. You can come and give him water yourself." Husayn placed Ali Asghar on the burning sand of Kerbala. Ali Asghar lay quietly on the hot sand of Kerbala. His turned his head and stared at Yazid's men. No water came for Ali Asghar. Husayn picked up Ali Asghar and said: "My son Ali Asghar, my darling, you are too young to fight with a sword or a spear. My little Mujaheed, my little soldier, you are a grandson of Ali. Ali Asghar, fight your Jehad with your tongue." Little Asghar stuck his dry tongue out and moved it over his dry lips looking towards Yazid's men. He fought Jehad with his tongue. The little soldier shot a strange arrow - his dry tongue. It hit the hearts of Yazid's soldiers who had children of their own. They became restless. Some started crying. They spoke amongst themselves: "Husayn is saying the truth. What has this child done to us? Why is he punished like this? Let us give him some water." Umar Saad got worried that his soldiers will turn against him. The little soldier's fight was very effective. Little Ali Asghar was fighting Jehad his way. Umar Saad ordered his best archer: "Hurmullah! What are you waiting for? Silence the little child! Don't you know he is a grandson of Ali? Hurry, shoot your arrow, before it is too late." Hurmullah aimed an arrow at Ali Asghar. A small arrow for a little child? No! An arrow not with one head, not with two heads, but with three sharp heads. Why? Why an arrow with three heads for such a small child? My fellow Husayni! You will not be able to stop crying when you hear what happened next. An arrow with three sharp heads flew across the desert of Kerbala. It was heading for Ali Asghar. Husayn saw the arrow coming. He covered Ali Asghar with his arms. The arrow reached Husayn. The arrow went through Husayn's arm and lodged in the tiny neck of Ali Asghar. Ali Asghar died instantly. Allaho Akber! Allaho Akber! Poor Husayn, the poor father, who came to get water for his little child. Instead of water, Ali Asghar got an arrow in his neck. What shall Husayn do now? What shall Husayn do now? Husayn gently pulled the arrow from Ali Asghar's tiny neck. My fellow Husayni, put your hand on your heart and imagine the scene - a father removing an arrow from his child's neck. What a tragic scene! Blood gushed out from Ali Asghar's neck. A voice came from the ground: "No, Husayn, do not let Ali Asghar's blood fall to the ground, otherwise no crops will ever grow from this earth." Husayn looked up at the sky. A voice came from the sky: "No Husayn, do not let the blood gush towards the sky, otherwise, no drop of rain will ever fall from this sky." What shall Husayn do now? What shall Husayn do now? The sky is refusing, the earth is not happy to accept Asghar's blood. Poor Husayn wiped Ali Asghar's blood on his face. Husayn started walking towards his tents. He saw Ali Asghar's mother - Umme Rubab - standing by his tent. A mother anxiously waiting for her baby. Husayn thought: "How can I face Umme Rubab? What shall I tell her? How can I tell her that her baby has been martyred without water? How? How?" SEVEN TIMES, Husayn went forward and then turned back, Saying: "INNA LILLAHE WA INNA ELAIHE RAJEOON." He finally reached the tent where Umme Rubab was standing. "Rubab, come and take your Ali Asghar. Rubab, your little soldier has died for the sake of Allah." Umme Rubab took her little child, Ali Asghar. She hugged him and cried her heart out. "Come with me Rubab. Enough, Rubab, enough. Let us bury our baby Asghar" Husayn and Umme Rubab walked to the back of the tents. Husayn dug a small grave with his sword, the Zulfikar. Umme Rubab placed Ali Asghar in the small grave. My fellow Husayni why should we not cry tonight? Why should we not do matam tonight? Have we ever heard of any other father and mother digging a grave and burying their own child? Where can Husayn get water to sprinkle on Ali Asghar's grave? There is no water to sprinkle on Ali Asghar's grave. Husayn sat by the grave crying. Tears poured on the grave. Ali Asghar's grave was sprinkled with Husayn's tears. INNA LILLAHE WA INNA ELAIHE RAJEOON!

The little baby Ali Asghar made himself fell from the cradle hearing this voice & started crawling towards his father; Lady Rubab (SA) told this to the Holy Imam that what happened when he raised his voice. Hazrat Imam Hussain took the baby out towards the army raised him above his head so every body could see him & said "this baby has done you no harm he is dying of thirst I,am asking you for a few drop of waters for him". The army stood still & quite. Following this Imam Hussain talked to the little baby "Asghar my son tell them that how thirsity you are". Baby Ali Asghar turned his head towards the army smiled sweatly & brought his dry tongue out & moved it over his lips. Seeing this exhibition of the individual dimesion of devine intelect by some one as young as six months old the whole army was stunned & started sobbing. It appeared that a six months old was emerging victorious over an army six thousand strong. Little baby Ali Asghar tried his utmost best to bring his poor father victory; he was not a man so he could not raise sword, this was all he could do. Seeing this Omar Saad (lanut allah alaih) got nervous & ordered the archer Harmala (lanut allah alaih) silence him. An arrow was fired that pierced the neck of the innocent silencing him till the day of ressurection. Imam Looked at the sky & prayed "O Allah give me strength in this most difficult moment of my life as even a prophet has never been subjected to a test as severe as this". Then he went back to tents to Lady Rubab (SA) & said "ina lilah-e wa ina ilaih-e rajioon". He repeated this seven time & then said Rubab "Rubab this is a test from Allah which no mother has ever been asked to go through". Then they both dug the grave of the baby boy with their own hands & buried him. The little baby Ali Asghar knew what he was doing he did a jihad of his own. Wasalam Hussain stands alone When Every One of his devotees was slain and none was left on the Holy Imam's side, he stood all alone in the field with his head resting on a lance and his garments drenched not only in his own blood but also of his martyred son, brothers, nephews and devotees, with the Devil's forces all around him. Baby Ali-e-Asghar comes into the field: When The Helpless Imam stood all alone in the field surrounded by the enemies, he was summoned by a call from his sister Zainab in his camp. When he went into the tent, he found his baby son Ali-e-Asghar, dying of thirst in his cradle and the poor mother Rubab, whose milk had dried up by the continuous thirst and hunger for the three consecutive days, could not help the baby with even a drop of her milk. Telling the mother that he would show the baby to the enemy and get some water for it if they give it, Hussain took the babe to the field and getting on a camel and raising it up in his arms to enable everyone in the enemy's forces to see it said: "O People! If, in your opinion, Hussain is guilty of any sin or crime, this innocent babe has done nothing to hurt any one of you. It does not even speak, and has not even uttered anything against you or your Amir at Damascus. He is dying of thirst. He had neither milk nor water for the last three days. Would you quench his thirst by a few drops of water? If you suspect that I demand water for myself in the name of the babe, then I will leave it here, if you want, and go easy and you may return it with his thirst quenched." It is reported that the address of the Holy Imam and the scene, with the thirsty innocent babe in his hands, was so touching, so pathetic and so heart-rending that even the men in the Devil's army could not help weeping and cursing the Devil and his Deputy Ibne Ziad, Governor of Kufa, who had gathered them there against such Holy and helpless ones. Ibna-i-Sa'd, fearing a revolt of his forces in sympathy for the Holy Imam, at once ordered a stonehearted brute named Hurmula to answer Hussain. The tyrant, shot a three-pronged arrow from his bow which after piercing through the Imam's arm got stuck into the tiny neck of the innocent babe. Blood flowed from the neck and the baby looking at its father's face smiled and stopped breathing for ever. Hussain collected the little blood that came out of the tiny neck of his baby son in his hand, and it is reported that when he wanted to drop it on the earth, from the earth the Holy Imam heard a voice saying: "O Holy Imam! I can not bear this innocent blood." And when Hussain wanted to throw the blood towards heaven, he heard a voice saying: "O Holy Imam! Throw not the innocent blood towards me for I can not bear it." An Urdu poet has versified the event: Inkar Aasman Ku Hai, Razi Zami Nahi Asghar Tumhare Khoon Ka Thikana Kahin Nahi i.e. The heaven refuses and the earth does not agree, O Ali-e-Asghar, thy blood has no place in the world. It is reported that the Holy Imam smeared his face with the blood of the innocent baby. Hussain could not take the dead baby to be returned to its mother who was waiting anxiously for it, at the door of her tent in the camp. Hence he sat down to bury his baby son in the burning sand of the desert. Does not even this one single sacrifice suffice to touch every human heart? God alone knows the degree of the patience and the fortitude which He had endowed in the Holy Imam to bear the series of such unbearable calamities. The Messenger from Madina: It is reported that when the Holy Imam was busy digging a tiny grave for the martyred baby, in the burning desert with his sword, a camel rider arrived into the field and wished him. The Holy Imam raised his wounded head and looked at him with wonder if there was any one still left to wish him in that hostile land at that very terrible and testing hour. The Arab was a messenger and had brought a letter from Fatema Sughra the sickly daughter of the Holy Imam, whom he had left alone in his deserted house at Madina. She had requested him in the letter either to return home soon from his journey or to send her brother Ali-Akber or her cousin Qasim or her uncle Abbas, (who were already slain) to take her to him. The most pathetic was her request to her father to kiss her baby brother Ali-e-Asghar, whom Hussain was just then burying. The Holy Imam could not help shedding tears, and kissed the dead baby on behalf of its sister at Madina saying: "Asghar dear! Your sister sends her kisses to you." And then addressed the messenger saying: "Brother! Bear witness, which I have compiled with the request and have kissed Asghar before thee. Hussain took the letter and read it out to his brothers, his son, and his nephews who lay martyred for whom it contained a wish and then turning to the messenger said: "Bear thou witness Brother! That I have conveyed the messages also to one and all concerned." The messenger stood aghast, stunned and struck with sorrow and wonder. When he demanded a reply to the letter, Hussain was only thinking as to what should he say in reply to it, when, suddenly an arrow from the enemy's ranks struck his forehead and blood began to drop down from the wound. Hussain took a few drops of his blood on the letter and returned it to the messenger saying: "Brother! Return thou to Madina with this reply and if my daughter asks thee anything more about me, relate what thou hast seen here and tell her on my behalf to be patient." "But, Beware, get thou quickly out of the range of thy hearing, away from this plain, for soon I will be issuing my last call, unto all around for help in the way of the Lord, whosoever heareth, it shall be incumbent on him to respond to it. Lest thou heareth it and get obliged to respond to the heavenly summon and then thou will not be able to return to Madina without becoming an infidel. Go away my brother! God be with thee." The messenger in utmost wonder and sorrow left the fatal plain with tears in his eyes for the plight of the Holy Soul.
Congratulations on Birth Anniversary of Hazrat-e Ali Asghar
It is 9th day Rajab 60 (AH). Again; Imam Husein (AS)'s house becomes bright and from its small window, sky of Medina has been brighten. A beautiful flower has been sent for Imam Husein (AS) from the heaven. The Almighty God presented another son to Imam Husein (AS). He called him Ali. Like as his two other sons, he was also called Ali. Imam Husein (AS) stated: "If the Almighty God presents me 1000 sons, I will call all of them as Ali". Yes, he was also Ali. Your name and dignity was higher than sky and more beautiful than morning and brighter than rain. Hazrat-e Ali Asghar (AS) was the youngest child of Hazrat-e Imam Husain (AS) and Rubab, the daughter of the chief of the tribe of Imraul Qays. You will take rest in father's kind embrace and his eyes will cries on you. You are the child of Karbala. You are the six months baby of Ashoura (10th day of Muharram). You had come to stay in lovers' caravan. You had come to be a fellow-traveler of Karbala. You had come to make the hajj rituals not to be ended. Your birth put aside the happiness and makes the eyes tearful. You only learnt thirty and martyrdom along your short life. You are the youngest martyr. Peace be upon your high name, oh Ali Asghar.
9th Rajab - Birthday of Hazrat Ali Asghar(A) - The Greatest Martyr of Karbala
Hazrat Ali Asghar was the youngest child of imam Hussain(A).He was born only a few weeks before imam left Madina. His mother’s name was Rubab(A), daughter of Imra’u'l Qais who was the chief of the tribe of Kinda. Rubaab had two children, Sakina(A) and Ali Asghar(A) She and her two children accompanied imam to karbala. The fact that imam took with him a newly born baby further demonstrates the prestige of H. Ali Asghar(A). At karbala, Asghar was only six months old. From the seventh Muharram there was no water in imam’s camp. Asghar was in great pain because of thirst. On Ashura day, after Ali Akber had been martyred, imam Hussain was standing outside the camp. He was left all alone and he was preparing to go into the battlefield. Just then he heard a child cry. It was Ali Asghar, tormented by the pangs of hunger and thirst. Imam walked into Bibi Rubab’s tent. He lifted the child from the cradle. “Rubab,” he said, “I will take him to Yazeed’s army. Surely they can not possibly deny this little infant a few drops of water?” Rubab changed Ali Asghar’s clothes. She even tied a small turban on his head. Like any other mother she wanted her son to look at his best in front of strangers. Imam Hussain carried the child to the battle field. Walking up to Yazeed’s soldiers imam Hussain said, “This child has done you no harm. He is dying of thirst. I am asking for a few drops of water for him.”There was no response. imam said, “If you are afraid that when you bring Asghar any water I will drink it, look, I will put him on the ground and you can come yourself and give him water.” He put the child on the sands of karbala and moved a couple of steps back. You can imagine how hot the desert sand was. Asghar lay there not even wincing. He turned towards the enemy and stared at them. A murmur arose among the soldiers but no one came forward to give water to the baby. imam took Asghar in his arms and in a clear voice said, “Asghar, my son, show them how thirsty you are!” Asghar turned his head towards the soldiers. He smiled sweetly. Opened his mouth. Brought out his dry tongue and moved it over his lips. The ultimate sword had been unsheathed ! The soldiers were so moved by this that they could be heard sobbing. Still, they were very afraid of Yazeed and none dared come forward to give water to Ali Asghar. Umar Sa’ad was worried. It seemed that Asghar was emerging victorious in this confrontation against the might of yazid. He looked at Hurmala, a famous archer, and said, “Silence Hussain!” Then a terrible thing happened. Hurmala lifted his bow. Aimed an arrow at the child. The arrow flew across the hot desert. There was a hissing sound. Asghar smiled. He lifted his head and arched his neck!! No civilized mind can even imagine what happened next. The hissing sound stopped and Asghar lay still on his father’s arms. Imam Hussain looked down at Asghar’s neck, he saw the arrow, he saw the neck, he saw the smile and then he could see no more!!! Our imam began to feel faint. For a moment everything went dark. He could not see! There was a total silence over karbala, broken only by the sound of the gentle waves of Furaat. Even the enemy appeared stunned. Slowly Hussain turned round and now looked at the baby in his arms. The arrow had passed through the tender neck and lodged in imam Hussain’s shoulder. He looked at the sky, and prayed “Ya Allah, give me the courage in this most difficult moment of my life. No Prophet ever was subjected to a test as severe as this.” THUS THE YOUNGEST CHILD OF HUSSAIN(A) BECAME THE GREATEST MARTYR OF KARBALA Leave a Reply You must be logged in to post a comment. http://www.islamicdigest.net/v7core/2007/08/31/9th-rajab-birthday-of-hazrat-ali-asghara-the-greatest-martyr-of-karbala/
Hazrat Ali Asghar a.s 9 Rajab
Hazrat Ali Asghar a.s 9 Rajab. Asalamoalaka ya Ali Asghar a.s http://www.yahosein.com/vb/showthread.php?t=44712
I gave Mubark from bottom of my heart to Specailly to Hazrat Imam e Hussain a.s & His wife Hazrat Bibi Rubab r.a & Masomeen a.s & Ahlabait a.s on the Birthday of Hazrat Ali Asghar a.s 9 Rajab. Hazrat Ali Asghar was the youngest child of Imaam Hussain. He was born only a few weeks before Imaam left Madina. His mother's name was Rubaab daughter of Imra'u'l Qais who was the chief of the tribe of Kinda. Rubaab had two children, Sakina and Ali Asghar. She and her two children accompanied Imaam to Kerbala. The fact that Imaam took with him a newly born baby further demonstrates the that his intention was never to engage in any armed rebellion. At Kerbala Asghar was only six months old. From the seventh Muharram there was no water in Imaam's camp. Asghar was in great pain because of thirst. On Ashura day, after Ali Akber had been killed, Imaam Hussain was standing outside the camp. He was left all alone and he was preparing to go into the battlefield. Just then he heard a child cry. It was Ali Asghar, tormented by the pangs of hunger and thirst. He put the child on the sands of Kerbala and moved a couple of steps back. You can imagine how hot the desert sand was. Asghar lay there not even wincing. Brought out his dry tongue and moved it over his lips. The ultimate sword had been unsheathed ! The soldiers were so moved by this that they could be heard sobbing. Still, they were very afraid of Yazeed and none dared come forward to give water to Ali Asghar. Umar Sa'ad was worried. It seemed that Asghar was emerging victorious in this confrontation against the might of Yezid. He looked at Hurmala, a famous archer, and said, "Silence Hussain!" Then a terrible thing happened. Hurmala lifted his bow. Aimed an arrow at the child. The arrow flew across the hot desert. There was a hissing sound. Asghar smiled. He lifted his head and arched his neck!! No civilized mind can even imagine what happened next. The hissing sound stopped and Asghar lay still on his father's arms. Imaam Hussain looked down at Asghar's neck, he saw the arrow, he saw the neck, he saw the smile and then he could see no more!!! Our Imaam began to feel faint. For a moment everything went dark. He could not see! There was a total silence over Kerbala, broken only by the sound of the gentle waves of Furaat. Even the enemy appeared stunned. Slowly Hussain turned round and now looked at the baby in his arms. The arrow had passed through the tender neck and lodged in Imaam Hussain's chest. There was no way Imaam Hussain could dislodge the arrow. His two arms were supporting the still child. He looked at the sky, and prayed "Ya Allah, give me courage in this most difficult moment of my life. No Prophet ever was subjected to a test as severe as this." It is said that the Imaam was so shaken up by what had happened to the infant child, that all of a sudden his beard went all grey and he looked an old man. With his teeth he pulled his abaa over Asghar to shield the body from the scorching sun. Then he took a few deep breaths, and began to walk towards his camp. As he got near he saw Rubaab standing at the entrance to her tent. He saw the anxiety, the hope, the fear and the restlessness in her eyes. Our Imaam seemed to lose all strength. He could not walk forward towards Bibi Rubaab. He took seven steps back saying "INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON". He stopped and thought that he must take the child to his mother. He again took seven steps forwards saying "INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON". Once again his eyes met with those of Bibi Rubaab's. Again our Imaam seemed to lose his courage and walked backwards repeating "INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON". Imaam Hussain did this seven times. Forward and backward. All the time Bibi Rubaab's eyes remained transfixed on the child. Each time Imaam reciting "INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON". Finally, somehow, he got the arrow dislodged. He now took the dead infant to Bibi Rubaab. He said, "Rubaab! This is a test from Allah which no mother has ever been asked to go through. Come with me" Bibi Rubaab followed. With their own hands they dug a small grave! The father and the mother together buried Ali Asghar!!
Hazrat Ali Asghar (AS)
Hazrat Ali Asghar (AS) By: Zahra Bukhari Zahra is fifteen years old and she currently lives in Stow. She attends Nashoba Regional High School and is in the tenth grade. During the month of Muharram I normally pay a lot of attention to the younger children of our Imambarah. Mashallah we are so fortunate to have such exuberant children who are so full of life. In seeing how joyous the next generation of our Imambarah is we normally do not notice when a child is playing or talking during a majalis. The constant mind-set is that they are probably too young to understand how deep the month of Muharram is. Well, when one thinks like that it is hard to imagine how an infant of 6 months could understand, but I am here tonight to talk about one who did. By Zuhr time, on the tragic day of Ashoora, all the men on Imam Husayn (A.S.) side had been martyred except for his two sons and himself. He called out to the soldiers of Yazeed’s side and asked them who would help him? Who would help their Holy Prophet’s (SAW) grandson? He asked this in hopes to steer the traitors away from a destiny in hell. The reply, which he had then received, was a cry of a woman from his tents. Upon entering, he found his beloved sister Bibi Zainab (A.S.) weeping. He asked Bibi Zainab (AS) why she was crying and she informed him that once he had called out for help his 6-month-old son, Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.), fell out of his crib. Imam Husayn (AS) knew this was his young sons’ way of begging to do Jihad. Lying in his mother, Umme Rubab’s (AS) lap, his father picked him up and brought him out to the battlefield. Yazeed’s entire army curiously watched the Imam as he walked out with what they thought was a Qur’an cradled in his arms. The Imam (AS) then showed his weakened son, deprived of food and water, to the armies and asked them, what had his son done to them? What could a 6-month-old infant possibly do to an army of thousands? No one had an answer. Imam Husayn (AS) placed his young infant, who had not received milk from his mother in 3 days, on the scolding sand of Karbala and told his son that he had no sword or spear like every other man, but to still do his Jihad. The young hero of Karbala stuck out his parched tongue and ran it along his lips. This sword of Hazrat Ali Asghar’s (AS) pierced through any decent heart left, and many soldiers began weeping realizing their barbaric sins. On seeing the power of the Imam’s (AS) youngest son, Ibne S’aad, the leader of Yazeed’s army sent Hurmullah, his best archer, to stop what was going on. The fear which 6-month-old Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.) put into Ibne S’aad caused him not to use an arrow with one head, not an arrow with two heads, but a three headed arrow. Hurmullah placed this three-pronged arrow into his bow and shot it straight through the neck of Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.) and into the arm of his father. No one can fathom the amount of pain a father can feel as he pulls a three-pronged arrow from his newborns neck. When he had dislodged the arrow, Hazrat Ali Asghar’s (AS) blood started to seep, when a voice came from the ground. The voice told the Imam (AS) not to let the young child’s blood touch the ground or no crops will ever grow. Looking up to the sky, a voice told the Imam (AS), do not let young Ali Asghar’s blood reach the sky or no rain shall ever fall. In complete shock, Imam Husayn (AS) was only left to rub the blood of his son into his own beard and then sadly headed back towards his camp. Walking back to the tent Imam Husayn’s (AS) eyes met with Umme Rubab’s (AS), not knowing how he would be able to gather himself to return her martyred infant. He could detect the anguish, the anxiety, and the fear in the young mother’s eyes. He could not keep walking towards her with their dead son in his arms. He then took seven steps back saying, “INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON.” Realizing it was his duty to return Umme Rubab (AS) her valiant soldier, he took those 7 steps back once again saying, “INNA LILLA-HI WA INNA ILAY-HI RAJEEOON.” The distressed father repeated this act 7 more times, and in the end returned Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.) to his mother. An important lesson which Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.) taught us is there is no age set on Jihad and loving our religion. It is our duty not only as children or teenagers, but as everyone to devout ourselves to Islam at all times. Mashallah we have been given an Imambarah to commemorate the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet (SAW). If a 6-month-old infant would have felt so strong about Islam that he would give his life, then we can Inshallah, every year give two hours during the 10 days of Muharram. We must always remember to conduct ourselves in a way in which Hazrat Ali Asghar (A.S.) can Inshallah proudly say, “I gave my life for these Muslims.”
